Saldanha drag video's

As we all know, actions speak louder than words...and in that way, I think i would have failed in my attempt to tell you about the car performances on the day. Seeing is believing and with that you can indulge on the below vid's of the drag racing. Great montage of pictures to give a good idea of what was on display :) Enjoy! Cheerz Zany

Saldanha Easter Drags

So it was all systems go on Friday afternoon as we got ready for our (short) roadtrip to Saldanha. Placed just 2hours outside of Cape Town. However, it took us (myself, Leah* and Ivan*) just to about 3hours to get there J

All set and ready to leave home at 14H00, we first stop at the shop to get the last few necessities. As we roam around the aisles, Ivan remembers that the portable braai I bought especially for the occasion has no utensils packed for the actual braaiing! We trek back to my place to pick up the braai “equipment” and some fine music *wink*.

Finally, we get on our way. GPS’s are activated and we hit the long straight road which is the N7.

Good laughs and memories were shared among ourselves. Looking at the nothingness of the fields and seeing odd “wildlife” (tortoise) along the way.

We finally got welcomed by the board of Saldanha “Welcome to Saldanha/ Welkom in Saldanha”. Then it was my turn to direct to the venue where the drags will be hosted.  Hold onto your seats.

Having directed a wrong turn I found myself playing hot and cold…”this place doesn’t look familiar. This place looks familiar”. It continued like that for about half an hour before we decided to ask the securities of a huge establishment to direct us. Fat load that helped! We lost him at the 3rd left in his explanation.

We got to a petrol station where Ivan asked the guy in the next car if he knew where the place was. Negative. We got directed to a club…in the middle of the day! Really?! Does nobody in this town know the landmarks? I know you’re wondering what happened to the GPS. It also did not know what we were looking for.

Finally we got to a petrol station where the petrol jockey directed us correctly and successfully.

We got to the place and stood in a line due to the gates not having opened yet. Eventually we got in and all seemed worth it J found a place right next to the fence so that we could easily watch the event from the boot of Leah’s Yaris. Ivan tried to braai. Fail. Our neighbouring spectators lent a helping hand and we had the best meal that evening.

We camped out in the car all night and intermittently got shows from guys revving the ish out of their cars just to show off who’s made the most noise. I loved that.

We woke up to wet ground outside, threatening to cancel the days events. But thanks to Leah, we were sent a weather report earlier in the week to say that there would be showers but would clear up by the afternoon. And whaddayaknow?! No rain the afternoon and everything went ahead as planned. The drag cars had to dry the strip by speeding up and down the track...much to the crowds pleasure.

We left at just after 14H00 Saturday afternoon and Leah was so inspired by the fast cars that she clocked her little 1.3 up to 191/kph. I know, WOW!

My favourite car of the day?! Tough question but it would have to be the turbocharged Ford Escort J made my heart melt. Then the Chevvy Lumina SS. Then the yellow BMW 325is

Here are my pictures. Enjoy
